Many supporters responded to our appeal from September 2023 (article from 1 September 2023). Many thanks for this. The school had a number of challenges to overcome, including:
- Lack of mattresses and other bedding items such as blankets, mosquito nets and bed sheets.
- Lack of school uniforms, as most pupils could not afford new school uniforms due to the poor economic situation of their parents.
- Lack of aids such as wheelchairs, learners had to share the limited wheelchairs which hindered learning in school and led to delays in class attendance.
- Poor learning equipment such as desks, chairs and other learning materials.
- Poor cooking and eating conditions. Poor kitchen structure, the school also had no dining hall.
We were able to help thanks to the numerous donations. Our social worker Geoffrey, who has been funded by the genialsozial project since October 2023 and is incredibly committed to the children of NYAMUGA, tells us:
In the last eight months that I have been visiting Nyamuga Special, the school has progressively improved in terms of the student body, infrastructure development, general hygiene of the students and the teaching staff. The problems were solved in the following ways:
- The school received additional 30 mattresses, 40 blankets and mosquito nets. This has helped the school to realise its dream of one mattress and one blanket per pupil.
- Almost 80% of the pupils now have good school uniforms. The school has also managed to change the colour of the school uniform through the donation.
- 5 new wheelchairs have been donated to the school. This has greatly helped our students who cannot walk and are mainly dependent on wheelchairs.
- The school has been donated learning equipment such as desks and chairs for both teachers and students, which has greatly helped to increase the comfort of students during lessons and improve their teamwork.
- The school has a new dining hall and kitchen built by RUSINGA DEVELOPEMENT NETWORK. This has not only helped the learners but has also improved the school facilities as it is the best and most modern building in the school with good ventilation and plenty of space.
Once again, many thanks to all donors! Even with small things we can achieve a lot.
And by the way: our children can now also play ParaVolley and organise competitions in the new dining room! Really a great step forward.
