Thanks to a donation from the OMEXOM company in Dresden, our partners were able to establish a small tree nursery on the grounds of Kamasengre Mixed Secondary School in October 2022.
The tree nurseries will not only play an important role in reforestation, but also help to teach the next generation about ecology, environment and climate change. To learn to appreciate nature and become enthusiastic protectors.
Young people are taught that they can and must play an active role in solving acute environmental problems. By being involved in the process of tree planting, not only do they learn the necessary skills, but most importantly they learn the value of their participation. This creates ownership and commitment.
Our partner association, KWEPU, aims to create a network of schools across Rusinga Island, all actively engaged in their local communities and passionate about tree planting. KWEPU wants the programme to develop an educational and practical force for the young generation to reforest throughout the island.
