The conference from 19-22 September in Dresden was the occasion to further fill the municipal partnership between the town of Glashütte and Mbita Sub-County with life.
Abraham Kemboi was invited to represent “our” Kenyan municipality Mbita Sub-County in his office as Deputy County Commissioner (DCC). Ramanus Abade and Jackson Ooko accompanied him as leading actors in (voluntary) community development on Rusinga. Since 2017, our association has been able to win the town of Glashütte as a supporter of our projects on Rusinga and – thanks to intensive correspondence by Claudia Bruschke – accompany it on the way to a municipal partnership. As a representative of the town of Glashütte, Elisabeth Bruckmann took part in the conference and, together with Ramanus and Jackson, offered a workshop on “Transparency and good practice”, which was experienced as very valuable by the participants.
In particular, Ramanus Abade’s sustainable tree nursery projects and our intercultural communication competence, which was noticeable to the other participants, met with a lot of interest.
Besides networking at the conference, there was of course an intensive exchange of experiences in Glashütte and the opportunity to initiate new projects.
What remains is the renewed strengthening experience of fruitful project partnerships in numerous places around the world as well as the amazing resilience of our African partners, who in the majority of cases were, are and remain confronted with many existentially threatening crises, but do not lose the courage to work for a better tomorrow. Let’s stay on the road together!
